One of the longest-established retail outlets in Galashiels – the Tweed Road convenience store and sub-post office – is to close at the end of this month.
Cath Douglas, who has run the dual business with her husband George for the past 32 years, said the decision was “sad, but unavoidable”.
With trade already squeezed by town centre supermarkets and more recently hit by the closure of arterial Winston Road to make way for the rail link, she explained that weekly takings had fallen drastically.
The sub-post office, which has operated from the site since 1934, will close on Wednesday, November 26. The shop will follow suit on Saturday, November 29.
