Kerrie left on edge after being clipped by lorry

Kerrie Renwick was on a shopping trip to buy bolognaise sauce with her husband Mark, her son Deacon, seven, and niece Brooke, five, when she was clipped in the back by an articulated lorry.

Its driver was trying to negotiate the tight corner with Tower Street, and its trailer had mounted the road, hitting Kerrie in the back.

She was left sprawled on the ground, as Mark screamed at the lorry driver to stop. However, the vehicle went on its way southwards.

Now, Kerrie says she is nervous when anywhere near the road.

Speaking to the Wee Paper at the scene of the incident, the Border Caring Services worker said: “I can’t bring myself to go any closer to the road.

“It’s been the same since last week.I find myself being very cautious if I’m anywhere near traffic.”

Kerrie suffered an injury to her back and shoulder, but an x-ray at the Borders General Hospital at Melrose discovered there were no broken bones.

She added: “I am aware of how lucky I am. It could have been so much worse.

“All I could think of at the time was thank God it was me and not my niece. It would have hit her at about head height.”

The accident happened across the road from where Selkirk people polled overwhelmingly in favour of a bypass.
