Two emerging stars, clarinettist Mark Simpson and pianist Richard Uttley, play for Kelso Music Society at the High School on Friday, October 18.

Kelso Music Society, recognised as one of Scotland’s leading music societies, held their opening concert last week with the legendary pianist Nikolai Demidenko.

Mark, who uniquely won both BBC Young Musician of the Year and the Proms Young composer award, is now established as one of Britain’s leading clarinettists, and as an accomplished composer.

Last year, he was commissioned to write a piece to open the Last Night of the Proms.

Accompanied by the masterful pianist Richard Uttley, another highly-talented musician with a double first from Cambridge and a fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music, they will be playing an all British programme of clarinet music by John Ireland, Finzi and Herbert Howells and three works by Mark, Edmund Finnis and Simon Holt (a Proms commission).

Tickets cost £12 (Under-14s free), and the concert starts at 7.30pm.
