Kelso land Borders chess crown

Kelso have captured the Borders League chess title with a match to spare.

In their last outing, the team needed just a point at home to closest rivals Berwick, who could have claimed the championship in their final encounter against Dunbar.

The result ended 2½-2½.

Kelso remained unbeaten throughout the season, conceding just two draws (both to Berwick).

For any person or persons looking to resurrect the former Hawick chess club, there’s still time to apply to join the league next season – contact Martin Keen by telephoning 01750 23171.
