A JEDBURGH camping site is to be expanded and extend its opening season.

It follows the decision of Scottish Borders Council’s planning committee last week to approve proposals from the Camping and Caravan Club, the operators of the Elliot Park site, which lies behind industrial units off the A68 on Edinburgh Road to the north of the town.

The site already has 60 pitches for tents and caravans including 15 hardstandings.

The application was for a further 12 hardstandings, improvements to the internal site access and an extension of the season from February 16 in one year to January 5 the next. The site currently operates from April 1 to October 31.

There were no objections to the bid which local councillor Jim Brown said was “good news for Jedburgh”.

“The hardstandings will attract motor homes and the town will undoubtedly benefit from visitors wishing to spend Christmas and New Year at this very attractive site,” he said.

The bid was also supported by Jedburgh Community Council and the national tourism promotion agency VisitScotland.
