Vet Iain Gillespie has won the Leaderdale and Melrose by-election, it has been announced this morning.
Representing the Borders Party, Mr Gillespie defeated Lib Dem John Paton-Day, a former councillor who was favourite for the seat vacated following the resignation of Nicholas Watson in February.
Others standing for the seat were Harry Cummings (SNP), Sherry Fowler (UKIP), Robin Tatler (Labour) and Rachel Hamilton (Conservative).
Mr Gillespie joins SBC leader David Parker and Jim Torrance as Leaderdale and Melrose’s councillors.
The overall turnout for the ward was 41.58 per cent.
