Historians at Abbotsford

Members of the Melrose Historical Association on the terrace of the new visitor centre at Abbotsford after their guided tour earlier in the month.

Jason Dyer, Chief executive of the Abbotsford Trust guidedmembers through the facilities to see theexhibition, Scott’s Life and Legacy, which tells Sir Walter’s personal story and shows his influence on culture and literature within the wider historical background of his time. The Morris gardenand the walled (kitchen) gardens are testimony to Sir Walter’s great love of gardening. The walled garden with its orangery has been reconstructed and replanted, returning it to how it was in Sir Walter’s lifetime – his innovative ideas had great influence on the practice of 19th century gardening. At the end of the tour a welcome afternoon cup of tea was enjoyed in the splendid new restaurant.
