Haining’s Storytelling and Book Festival returns

Selkirk’s Haining House hosts a Children’s Book and Storytelling Festival on Saturday October 26 from 10am to 4pm.

A spokesman for the Haining Charitable Trust told us: “Following the success of last year’s festival, we are delighted to welcome John Nichol, Oliver Eade, Alma Dowle and Alan Burnett, who will lead workshops in the main house, featuring writing, storytelling and illustrating.

“There’ll be an art tent of cartoons with George Coltman, a Tiny Tots Tipi Tent featuring Book Bugs with Selkirk Library, games, poetry, a treasure hunt, writing and painting. Selkirk’s Forest Bookstore will also be attending.”

John Nichol has acted in more than 30 musical shows, and directed 13 pantomimes for stage and radio, playing the comedy role in all. Oliver Eade is a retired hospital doctor now writing for children and adults, while Alma Dowle illustrated many of Oliver’s books, such as Moon Rabbit. And best-selling author Allan Burnett writes engaging history books, including the And All That blood-spattered historical biographies.
