Groups put forward women of the year

Members of the various Slimming World groups in Kelso have been celebrating the success of some of their most inspiring women.

Competition was tight for the prestigious Woman of the Year title, and a number of women had been nominated to go forward to the national finals.

The three group winners have all lost more than five stones each, making a grand total weight loss of 19 stones collectively.

Brenda Renwick from the morning club lost a staggering eight stones within 12 months of joining.

Brenda, who suffered with terrible knee complaints, told of how it used to be virtually impossible to walk and how her husband used to have to drop her directly at the door if they were going out. After joining Slimming World she found a world of difference.

She said: “I never feel hungry or deprived and have lost eight stones by eating amazing foods that never need be weighed or counted. I am doing things I never dreamed possible and it’s all thanks to the support and inspiration of the Kelso morning members.”

Group consultant Becky Scott said: “I am so proud of Brenda and her incredible achievement. She is a true inspiration to our club”.

Following on from the success of Brenda the two sessions held in the evening saw two more women go forward.

Fiona Phillips, voted as the 5.30 session winner, told members of her weight loss success and just how much shedding five stones has changed her life. And Mary Gibson, a mum from Kelso, scooped the title in the final evening group with a staggering loss of six stones.

The national finals of the competition, held in Birmingham in November, will see one woman win a holiday of lifetime to Mexico.

The groups meet every Tuesday at 9.30am, 5.30pm and 7.30pm at Cross Keys Hotel Kelso – call Becky Scott on 07856 379432 for more information.
