The Greenwood Trio will give a recital for Melrose Music Society in Melrose Parish Church Hall on Saturday November 16 at 7.30pm.

Their repertoire explores music for the various combinations of soprano, clarinet and piano, which began flourishing in the 19th century, often taking inspiration from nature and pastoral themes.

The Greenwood Trio are, individually, Frances Cooper (soprano), Joanna Nicholson (clarinet) and Ingrid Sawers (piano).

Frances, from Inverness, performs as a soloist throughout Scotland and elsewhere Britain.

Ingrid, an Edinburgh graduate, is in demand as one of Scotland’s finest accompanists and chamber musicians and tours all over Europe.

The clarinettist, Joanna, was a prize-winner at London’s Royal College of Music now performing world-wide, including featuring as soloist with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at the London Proms and playing for HRH The Prince of Wales at Holyrood Palace.

The recital will include works by Vaughan Williams, German songs by Spohr, and Hirtenlied by Meyerbeer.

The evening will also feature Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rocks for soprano and clarinet, composed towards the end of the great composer’s brief life, and Liszt’s transcription of Schubert’s Litanei for
piano solo. Frances will sing two nursery songs by Arthur Bliss, a Scots song by MacMillan and folk song arrangements by Sawers, whereas Joanna and Ingrid will play preludes for clarinet and piano by Gershwin.

Tickets on door cost £12, but accompanied children enter free.
