FIONA Colton and David Allen claimed the Borders Writers’ Forum nationwide Illness and the Child competition, in aid of the Edinburgh Sick Kids Friends’ Foundation.

Fiona from Selkirk picked up the poetry title for Varicella Sonnet while David was judged to have the best short story with The Posset.

The winner were announced by Professor Ian Campbell, Emeritus Professor of Scottish and Victorian Literature at Edinburgh University, at the Borders Book Festival.

Professor Campbell praised all the short-listed entries, with the competition raising £370 for ESKFF, and also helped to highlight the huge amount of work done by the charity to help ill children in the Borders.
