The family of Michael Bates, who died on Sunday, have paid tribute to the 47-year-old.

Mr Bates, from Kelso, died as a result of his injuries after his motorbike collided with a tractor at the Fat Lamb Hotel, near Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria on Sunday afternoon.

His family said: “It is with great sadness that Michael has so tragically been taken from us.

“A keen motorcyclist for several years with a zest for life, Michael, who loved both home and work life, will be sorely missed by his wife Jacqueline, sons Tom and Mick and daughters Jo and Sophie.”

The rider of a second motorcycle which also collided with the tractor, a 45-year-old man from Berwick, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was taken to Carlisle Hospital by ambulance.

The tractor driver, a 20-year-old man, did not require any hospital treatment.
