Border Livestock Exchange to week ending Friday 1st November 2013 sold 149 Prime Cattle including 37 Cows; 3,910 Prime Sheep including 487 Ewes; 1,240 Store and Breeding Sheep; 155 Store and Breeding Cattle.

Aberdeen Angus x Bullocks and Heifers sold to 430p per kg and £1,422 per head. Continental Bullocks & Heifers to 415p per kg and £1,308 per head. Cull Cows to 300p per kilo. Young Bulls to 408p per kg and £1,260 per head

Lamb trade is definitely firming as numbers tighten up. Standard Lambs (16 – 21kgs) sold to 395p per kg and £83. Hill Lambs to 385p per kg and a flat rate of 345p per kg for small (under 13kg) horned Lambs. Cull Ewe Mules to £55.

Store Lambs continue to sell well with strong lambs and longer keeping types keenly sought after. Stock Lleyn Ewes to £105 and Mule Gimmers to £115.

John Swan Limited sold 659 Spring Born Calves and Store Cattle at their annual Show & Sale. The champion was awarded for a Charolais.x bullock scaling 360kgs and realising £1170 from M/s Anderson, Headshaw, Lauder to the judge M/s J Thompson, Middlestotts, who also purchased the reserve, a Charolais.x bullock realising £1190 also from M/s Anderson, Headshaw, Lauder.

LONGTOWN

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 26 prime cattle, 19 young bulls, 39 over thirty month cattle, 5,640 prime lambs and 5,827 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 31st October 2013. A similar show of 5,640 prime lambs which sold to average 180.3p per kilo (SQQ 182.7p). Best quality lambs were again keenly sought after with heavy sorts lacking flesh harder to cash. Vendors are advised that lambs should now be belly clipped as requested by all abattoirs. Top price of £100 per head for Texels from J. Latimer, Cherry Garth & A. Carruthers & Sons, Peela Hill and to 283p per kilo for Beltex from J.M. Richardson, Newington.
