Happy ending for Borders otter Rose

AN abandoned otter cub rescued from the banks of the Ale Water, near Lilliesleaf, last year, has now been released back into the wild, writes Mark Entwistle.

Christened Rose, the eight week-old cub had been spotted calling for her mother by a concerned member of the public, who alerted the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Local Senior Inspector Jenny Scott collected the female cub, and took her to the Scottish SPCA’s Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fife where she soon recovered from her ordeal.

Rose was subsequently transferred to the International Otter Survival Fund on the Isle of Skye to continue her rehabilitation and the SSPCA informed TheSouthern this week that Rose had now been returned to the wild.
