NURSERY children in Morebattle and Yetholm have a smartboard, thanks to the generosity of the local community.
The village’s 16 pre-schoolers helped raised more than £2,000 for the interactive device which enables children to use their fingers or pens instead of a compter mouse.
Nursery teacher Charlotte Shortel said: “We are really chuffed. Smartboards are commonplace in the classroom but very few nursery units have them and we are very proud of our fundraising achievement.”
The smartboard was delivered last week and Mrs Shortel said: “The children are getting used to using it and reaping the benefit of such an amazing resource.”
The nursery children had previously shared a smartboard with the rest of the primary school in a room used by both sets of youngsters, but when the board was moved into a primary school classroom, Mrs Shortel decided to try to raise the money to buy one for the nursery.
Local businesses, a community fund run by the local church, Yetholm and Morebattle parent councils and the nursery children running events such as a grand prix – on buggies and trikes around the hall – raised the cash in four months last year.
And now parents and everyone who contributed have been invited to a special launch at the nursery on Wednesday to see what they helped buy and how it works.
