Earlston actor on awards shortlist

A local actor who has appeared in a BBC adaptation, an acclaimed West End play and an Irn Bru advert is up for a national award.

Former Earlston High School pupil Jack Lowden, 25, from Oxton, East Lothian, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Young Scot Awards 2016.

Jack is a finalist in the entertainment category, sponsored by Megabus. The actor got his big break in an Irn-Bru advert when he was just 18. In 2014, he won an Olivier Award for his role as Oswald in Richard Eyre’s adaptation of Ibsen’s Ghost. The 25-year-old has also starred in Wolf Hall and the BBC drama War and Peace. Jack enrolled in the Scottish Youth Theatre when he was 10 and went on to study at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.

The Young Scot Awards recognise the inspirational achievements of Scotland’s young people. Winners will be announced at a red carpet award ceremony on April 27 at Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
