Drink driving leads to 16-month ban for Jedburgh woman

A Hawick woman who admitted driving a vehicle while six-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit has been banned from the road for 16 months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Fifty-four-year-old Diane Nichol of Ramsay Road, pleaded guilty at Jedburgh Sheriff Court to having a breath/alcohol count of 146 microgrammes – the limit being 22.

The offence was committed in various streets in Hawick on June 26.

Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said his client had an alcohol problem, but had been in contact with addiction services for assistance.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said that it was a serious matter, given the very high reading.

In addition to the 16 months ban, Nichol was fined £350.
