Domestic abuse lead to convictions in the Borders

More than half the incidents of domestic abuse reported to the police in the Borders last year resulted in at least one criminal conviction.

Figures published by the Scottish Government reveal there were 911 such incidents in the region in 2014/15 – up from 864 the previous year and around 50% higher than the 613 recorded a decade ago.

The latest total equates to 799 per 100,000 of the population – well below the Scottish average of 1,120.

The statistics show that 52% of reported incidents in the Borders resulted in criminal convictions, compared to a Scottish average of 54%.
