Parish church

The Reverend Elspeth Harley conducted the watchnight service on Thursday. A retiring collection for Shelter raised £250. On Sunday, session clerk Anne Grieve led the service.

New Year communion service is on Sunday (10.15am).



Heiton village hall’s Christmas lunch was held on December 22. The event, sponsored by the library café and Heiton and Roxburgh Community Council, attracted 70 diners. A collection afterwards raised £225 for Kelso Heartbeat, which intends providing a defibrillator for installation in the village.


Countdown Club

The club meets on December 30 at 10.30am in Innerleithen Church Hall of Friendship.

On parade

St Ronan’s Silver Band will parade around the town on New Year’s Day from 9am.



Kelso Horticultural Society’s AGM is on January 6 at 7pm in the Tait Hall.



Members meet in the institute on January 14 (not January 7) at 7.30pm when the Reverend Robin McHaffie and Linda Fleming talk about the Borders Abbey Walk.


A quiz was held on Sunday in the Templehall Hotel when £205 was raised towards new village Christmas lights. Winners – Jennifer O’Mara, Moira Wight, Alastair Gray and Barney Madox. Runners-up – Kym Cessford, Helen Cessford, Jeannette Marshall and Neil Stevens.


The light exercise class restarts on January 6 at 10.30am in the village hall.
