Companies with prize-winning potential are being urged to get their skates on as they have just one day left to enter this year’s Scottish Borders Business Excellence Awards.
The closing date for the annual event, organised by the Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, is tomorrow, August 24.
The awards, now in their fourth year, aim to promote and celebrate best practice among Borders businesses, including those in the public or third sectors.
Last year’s awards saw a record number of applications – up 300% on 2016, though that was due in part to contenders being shortlisted in multiple categories – and the event’s organisers are hoping to break that record again this time round.
Chamber chairman Jack Clark said: “We are honoured to once again be responsible for organising the Scottish Borders Business Excellence Awards.
“Last year was, without doubt, our most successful event yet since we took over the running of these awards four years ago.
“Being the voice of Borders Business, we look forward to once again championing the best of business from across the region.”
Winner of the 2017 manufacturer of the year award was Johnston’s of Elgin’s Hawick factory, and Nick Bannerman, its managing director, is urging other business bosses to throw their hats into the ring.
He said: “Winning a Borders business award was a great boost for our staff here in Hawick and Innerleithen as recognition of the work they do for the wider company.
“There are always more pressing matters in our business lives than working on award applications, but it is a great way to remind yourself and those around you of just how passionate and committed everyone is to the success of the business.”
This year’s event will be held on Thursday, November 1, at Kelso’s Springwood Park.
