Witness appeal issued after woman targeted by would-be thief in Selkirk

Police are appealing for witnesses after a would-be thief attempted to snatch a mobile phone from a woman in Selkirk.

The woman was walking alone in Murray Place at about 7.45pm on Tuesday when she was approached by a male who ran up behind her and tried to grab her mobile from her hand.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “He was unsuccessful and has made off towards Buccleuch Road via the bridge over the River Tweed. Nothing was taken and the female, although shaken by the incident, was unharmed.”

The suspect was about 5’8/5’9 tall, of slim build, wearing a black beanie hat, dark coloured top and dark tracksuit bottoms.
