ANOTHER seven people have been arrested and charged under the ongoing Operation Goal anti-drugs operation, writes Bob Burgess.
It takes the total number of arrests since raids began earlier this month to 38 with police targeting street level dealers. Most have already made at least their initial court appearance and the first to be given a jail term was put behind bars on Monday.
Darren Crawford, 28, was caught in a police sting when he supplied heroin to undercover police officers. He was jailed for eight months.
In the latest stage of Operation Goal police swooped on addresses in Arnot Place, Earlston; Chay Blyth Place, and Fraser Avenue in Hawick and Hawthorn Road, Woodstock Avenue and Kenilworth Avenue, all in Galashiels.
The five men and two women arrested over the past week aged between 18 and 38.
Detective Chief Inspector Amanda McGrath of the Lothian and Borders force commented: “We continue to build our intelligence picture for those involved in the supply of drugs within the Borders.
“I am buoyed by the continued support of our local communities, who have made it clear through the information they provide our officers with, that they will not tolerate drug dealers operating in their area.
“However, we cannot rest on the success we have had so far and officers will keep on engaging with local residents in their policing areas to obtain more information on drug crime.”
