Sentence deferred on man who cut girlfriend’s brakes

a GALASHIELS man who admitted severing the brakes on his ex-girlfriend’s car has had his sentence deferred.

Alan Bell, 26, of Halliburton Place, has been in custody since last month when he pled guilty at Edinburgh High Court to the offence in St Boswells in June.

But solicitor advocate David Allan asked for a new court date because a doctor asked to prepare a report on the risk Bell poses to the public had not been able to make it through the snow to interview him in prison.

He will be sentenced at a later date.

Edinburgh High Court heard last month that Bell had told police officers that he did not want to hurt ex-girlfriend Susan Hope, but he instead wanted to damage the car.
