David Cotton appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on a videolink live from Saughton Prison in Edinburgh and admitted the two break-ins at houses in Maxmill Park in Kelso on Saturday, March 14.
He stole various electronic items from one house and a television and DVD player from a flat there too.
Sentence was deferred until April 14 for the production of a criminal justice social work report and a restriction-of-liberty order assessment.
Cotton, of Maxmill Park, was remanded in custody until then.
