POLICE have issued a fresh warning to farmers and people living in isolated areas to be on their guard against raiders.
The move follows a number of incidents in which thieves have escaped with valuable equipment and fuel.
Two farms in Peeblesshire were targeted overnight Wednesday into Thursday last week.
Honda quad bikes were taken from two farms near Broughton and one at Stobo.
Diesel and tools were also stolen and the value of the missing property runs into several thousand pounds.
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police, based at divisional headquarters in Hawick, commented: “We remind all owners of this type of property to take all reasonable steps to ensure it is secure when not in use.
“And we should be contacted as soon as something is missing or if any suspicious activity occurs near their premises.”
