Police are warning residents to be vigilant after receiving reports of men offering generators for sale.
Between 2pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday officers in the Duns and Eyemouth areas received a number of calls in relation to two Irish men driving around in a silver Mercedes car.
The men had been approaching farm and harbour workers in both areas offering to sell generators.
One victim in Coldstream purchased a generator only to find that it did not work.
Officers are now asking members of the public who can assist in tracing these men to come forward.
Chief Inspector Paula Clark said: “We are keen to trace the males as soon as possible and establish how they came into possession of the generators.
“Anyone who has information that can assist with our enquiries is asked to come forward.
“I would advise members of our community not to purchase a generator if approached by these men and report any sightings to police immediately.”
Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
