A TWEEDDALE pensioner has been conned out of an undisclosed sum of money in a telephone scam.
The unnamed 74-year-old was called at her Innerleithen home by a man with what she described as an Asian accent.
He told the woman she had come into a large amount of money.
A police spokesman confirmed: “The caller said she first had to pay an administrative charge to release the funds.
The pensioner supplied the fraudster with her bank details and the money disappeared from her account.
The police spokesman stressed: “We would warn the public not to entertain such callers and bank details should never be released over the phone.”
