Newtown woman banned from road for driving without insurance

A 45-year-old woman has been banned from the road at Selkirk Sheriff Court after admitting driving with no insurance.

Jillian Reid, of Glenburn Avenue in Newtown, already had six penalty points on her driving licence so her conviction for that offence on February 16 took her up to 12 points and an automatic disqualification under the totting-up procedure.

She also pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident and give her name and address.

She pleaded not guilty, however, to driving with a breath-alcohol count of 76 microgrammes, the legal limit being 22.

A trial date was fixed for May 21 at Selkirk Sheriff Court, with an intermediate hearing on May 4.
