A man has been arrested and charged over the robbery of a handbag from an 85-year-old woman in Galashiels just over a month ago.
The 33-year-old is accused of assault and robbery.
He is alleged to have stolen the pensioner’s handbag in the town’s Croft Street on Saturday, September 10.
The woman sustained serious injuries during the robbery and had to be taken to Borders General Hospital in Melrose for treatment.
The man accused or robbing and attacking her is due to appear at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday, October 17.
Inspector Tony Hodges, of Galashiels police station, said: “I want to reassure residents that crimes of this nature remain rare in Galashiels. However, this understandably caused concern among the community.
“I’d like to thank locals for their support and assistance with our investigation, and I’m pleased to say that the victim is recovering well.”
