Jedburgh sheriff remands Hawick murder accused in custody

A MAN has appeared in court accused of killing a man in Hawick on Tuesday night.

Murder-accused Derek William Kinghorn made no plea or declaration during a brief appearance in private at Jedburgh Sheriff Court today (Thursday).

He appeared on a petition which alleges he repeatedly stabbed Mr Brian Mair, 44, of Wellfield Road, Hawick, with a knife or similar instrument.

Mr Mair’s body was found when police were called to Kinghorn’s flat in the Howgate area of Hawick around 11pm on Tuesday.

Kinghorn, also 44, was remanded in custody by Sheriff Donald Corke who remanded him in custody and continued the case for further examination.

He’ll make a second court appearance next week.
