Hawick 35-year-old fined £120 for careless driving over crash in Selkirk

A motorist has had his driving licence endorsed with six penalty points for crashing into a parked car after overtaking an ambulance in Selkirk.

Lukasz Lubicki, 35, of Hillend Drive in Hawick, admitted that offence, and he also pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to driving with no insurance.

Depute fiscal Fiona Hamilton said the collision in question occurred in Selkirk’s Ettrick Terrace on September 23 and the street was busy at the time due to there being a sheriff court sitting.

She said: “The accused overtook an ambulance outside the court, and when he came back into his own carriageway, he collided with a parked vehicle.

“There was a loud noise from the impact.”

Defence lawyer Stephanie Clinkscale described the offence as a “loss of concentration”.

The self-employed handyman was fined £120 for careless driving and another £120 for being uninsured.
