Kai Roy, 20, pleaded guilty to pushing a constable as well as being concerned in the supply of ecstasy in Bank Close in Galashiels.

Depute fiscal Fiona Hamilton explained that officers on patrol in Galashiels town centre at around 2.30am on September 21 saw the accused and went to speak to him.

On seeing the officers, Roy tried to flee but ended up running straight towards another officer at the far end of the alley.

Ms Hamilton said: “She shouted at him to stay where he was. He put two hands on the officer’s chest and pushed him, which knocked him off balance.”

Roy was then put into the back of a police vehicle and transported to Hawick police station.

By then, he was apologetic saying he hadn’t mean to assault the officer and had just wanted to get away.

A search of Roy’s clothing revealed him to be in possession of nine wraps of ecstasy, found in his boxer shorts.

Ms Hamilton said: “The weight of the drugs was 5.7 grammes with an estimated value of £195.

“The accused’s mobile phone was seized, and there were conversations which proved the accused was involved in the supply of controlled drugs.” Defence lawyer Robert More said he accepted that his client had got himself into difficulties.

Sheriff David Clapham ordered Roy, of Penman Place in Galashiels, to carry out 100 hours’ unpaid work over the next six months.
