A DRIVER is facing court after police say they clocked him at 110 miles per hour on the Melrose bypass, writes Bob Burgess.

The 24-year-old local man was stopped on the 60mph A6091 in the early hours of Saturday.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police at Hawick confirmed: “The driver has been reported to the procurator fiscal and will appear in court on a future date.”

He added: “It is very disappointing that a small minority of drivers feel that it is appropriate to drive at excessive speeds putting themselves, their passengers and other road users in danger.

“We carry out regular patrols and speed checks and will deal with offenders appropriately.”
