A TEENAGER has appeared in court accused of killing a man whose body was found in Hawick on Monday morning, writes Bob Burgess.
Dean Rippon, 19, appeared briefly in private at Duns Sheriff Court yesterday afternoon accused of the murder of Mr Christopher Swailes.
Rippon made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody pending a further hearing next week.
The body of 43-year-old Mr Swailes was found by police around 10.40am on Monday at a property on Liddesdale Road in the Stonefield area of the town.
Police initially said they were unable to say if the death was suspicious, but on Tuesday night they confirmed that a 19-year-old youth had been arrested and charged with murder.
Prior to the teenager being charged, police said they believed it was an isolated incident and that they were following a positive line of enquiry.
• Another man accused of murder in Hawick made a second court appearance on Friday. Derek William Kinghorn, 44, is charged with killing Mr Brian Mair,44, of Wellfield Road, Hawick. He made no plea and was fully committed for trial in custody. Mr Mair’s body was found in Kinghorn’s house in the Howgate on November 1.
