Police in the Borders are appealing for witnesses following a theft of money from a store in Peebles.

The incident happened between 2.45pm and 3pm on Friday November 20 at the Tiger Lily Gift Shop on the High Street.

A female employee was working alone inside when two men, both in their 40s, entered.

One of the men distracted the assistant while the second male stole money from the till.

After both men left, the woman noticed a three-figure sum of cash was missing and called police. Anyone who can assist officers with their inquiries is asked to come forward.

The first suspect is described as white, late forties, 6ft 3ins tall with a slim build and wearing a light-coloured jacket with a grey hood and blue jeans.

The second suspect is described as white, in his forties with a stocky build, round face and short brown hair. He was wearing glasses and a long dark jacket.

Inspector Bryan Burns from Melrose Police Station said: “We believe both men intentionally set out to distract the store assistant before stealing from the shop.”
