Albanian 25-year-old jailed over £30,000 cannabis haul found in car on A1 in Borders

Albanian national Oljan Bala pleaded guilty to being in possession of the class-B drug with intent to supply on the A1 road at Burnmouth in Berwickshire on August 31.

That offence came to light after police officers on traffic duty pulled over an Audi A4 car near the Scotland-England border, Selkirk Sheriff Court heard.

Sheriff Peter Paterson told Bala, of no fixed abode, he would have been jailed for 21 months, but, taking into account his early guilty plea, he was able to take a third off that sentence.

Bala’s sentence was back-dated to September 2, that being when he was first remanded in custody.
