DISGRACED teacher Andrew Beattie was a member of the six-strong science department at the 520-pupil Selkirk High School where his main subject was biology, writes Bob Burgess.
He’d been a trusted member of staff for three decades and was about to retire when the shocking revelations came to light.
Police took him from the school on May 4 last year, searched his home and took away his computer for examination.
A few days later he made a private court appearance on a petition alleging possession of pornographic material.
Scottish Borders Council education director Glenn Rodger sent a letter to all parents confirming a police enquiry was under way – but made no mention of a court appearance and did not name the teacher under investigation.
A statement to reporters confirmed that the teacher who had appeared in court had been removed from teaching duties in the meantime.
This week the council told TheSouthern: “Andrew Beattie has not taught at Selkirk High School since he was first subject to police investigations in May 2010 and is no longer an employee of the council. This matter is now in the hands of the courts.”
