Around 330 plants were seized during a police raid at an address in the town’s Sandbed earlier this month.

Grzegorz Kowalski appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug and producing a controlled drug.

He also faces a charge under the 1989 Electricity Act.

Kowalski, giving an unspecified address in the Borders, made no plea and was fully committed for trial.

Bail was refused, and he was remanded in custody.

The drug haul he faces charges over was the second involving a six-figure sum’s worth of cannabis to be found in Hawick in a matter of weeks.

Cannabis valued at £475,000 was seized during raids at properties in Hawick’s Princes Street, Duke Street and Rosevale Street last month.

Jevgeni Strelkov, 36, and Aleksei Golovan, 37, both of Hawick, are currently on remand after being charged with drug dealing and producing cannabis in connection with that discovery.
