Andrew Wood, 41, of Elm Row in Galashiels, pleaded guilty to punching and kicking the man to the head and body to his injury at Henley’s Bar on May 10 last year.

Fiona Hamilton, prosecuting, told Selkirk Sheriff Court the incident started at around 11pm after Wood started shouting and behaving aggressively towards his victim.

She explained: “He punched him and put him in a headlock.

“He picked up a plastic wine cooler and struck him to the head, which split the cooler.”

Defence lawyer Ross Dow said it was admitted that the incident should not have happened and his client had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

Sheriff Donald Corke told Wood he had imposed an unpaid work order as an alternative to custody.
