34-year-old fined £100 for shoplifting spree at Kelso supermarket

A woman has owned up to stealing various items from a Kelso supermarket shortly after being released from prison.

Leanne Morton, 34, pleaded guilty to stealing foodstuffs, toiletries and a bottle of wine from Sainsbury’s store at Pinnaclehill industrial estate on November 12.

Defence lawyer Ross Dow told Selkirk Sheriff Court his client’s lifestyle was chaotic at the time as she had just been released from jail.

He said: “She had no money to pay for these items. It is maybe something the system needs to address.

“She stole these items for her own consumption, not to sell on.”

Morton, formerly of Kelso but now of Chapel Quay in Eyemouth, was fined £100.
