Cotton’s prison sentence was backdated to Monday, March 16, that being when he was first remanded in custody in connection with the break-ins.

He was also appearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for breaching a community payback order imposed for assaulting a teenager to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement in Hawick’s Wellfield Road in February 2019.

Because he was jailed, though, no further order was made against Cotton, now of Maxmill Park but formerly of Wilton Crescent in Hawick, in relation to that offence.
