Council invests in future of recycling

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has invested over £350,000 to redesign the recycling centre, which opened this week.

Benefits include enhanced traffic management with one-way traffic flow which will keep the public away from working areas of the recycling centre.

The works also reduce the need for the centre to close while skips are being emptied.

The works aim to provide a better experience for users and as a result an increased recycling rate, with the public encouraged to separate their waste before visiting and use manageable containers which can be carried and lifted.

Councillor David Paterson, SBC’s executive member for environmental services, said: “The works represent a significant investment by Scottish Borders Council, and have resulted in a greatly improved facility for the people of Hawick and the surrounding areas.

“Community Recycling Centres play an important role in supporting the Council’s kerbside waste and recycling collection services.”

The centre is open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm Saturday and Sunday.
