KELSO’s Jill Scott has narrowly missed out on seeing one of her mouth-watering desserts being stocked on the shelves of Tesco supermarkets across the UK, writes Mark Entwistle.
Jill, who works for Scottish Enterprise, and lives with her husband and three young children in the town’s Springwood Drive, had decided to enter the competition for a new Tesco sweet after discovering that competitiors could enter at last month’s Edinburgh roadshow staged by the This Morning breakfast television programme.
Jill’s lemon meringue cheesecake made it through to the semi-finals of the This Morning Super Sweet contest, which necessitated Jill making a trip to London for the event which was staged in front of the television cameras at the Leith Cooking School.
“Six of us got through to the semi-final, but only three were chosen to go on to the final,” said a disappointed Jill this week.
“Yes, it was disappointing not to have made it further but the whole experience was fantastic and I’m delighted that one of my own culinary creations managed to get that far.
“I really enjoy cooking, especially desserts. All our children really enjoy desserts and my eldest, Ellie, likes to help with any baking I am doing – although she conveniently manages to disappear about the time the dishes are to be done!”
The episode of This Morning featuring Jill – in which she had to prepare her dessert within a set time using her own supplied ingredients – was broadcast yesterday and Jill says the whole experience has given her new inspiration.
“One of the hosts, Wendi Peters, later told me she fought really hard for my dessert to make it to the final and that was really nice of her to let me know that.
“The whole thing has opened my eyes to possibilities for the future.”
The final of the competition is expected to be broadcast towards the end of next week.
