It is now four days since Melita Hachey was last sighted.

She was seen leaving her home in Livingstone Place in Galashiels last Friday afternoon, February 21, and is believed to have been heading for Leaderfoot.

Melita is described as white, around 5ft 5in tall and of slim build, with shoulder-length, brown hair cut in a bob style.

When last seen, she was wearing a dark-coloured parka-type jacket with a fur-trimmed hood, blue jeans and white trainers.

Inquiries carried out so far suggest that Melita might have been bound for Leaderfoot via Gattonside or Melrose, and officers are trying to establish how she might have made that seven-mile journey.

They are appealing to motorists to think back and consider if they might have seen Melita and any with dash cams are asked to check their footage to see if it captured images of her making her way to the beauty spot, famous for its 156-year-old viaduct over the River Tweed.

Police issued an appeal for help to trace Melita on Saturday, and they are now stepping up that plea as concerns mount for her welfare.

Inspector John Scott, of Galashiels police station, said: “It is out of character for Melita not to be in touch with her family and friends and, as time goes on, our concern is growing.

“If anyone has any information or knowledge as to Melita’s whereabouts, I would ask them to call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Galashiels police station via 101, quoting incident number 640 of February 22.
