Complacent comments

Borders College vice-principal David Killean’s comments in last week’s Southern about a success rate of 71 per cent for further education students seem rather complacent, even if it is the best in Scotland.

Perhaps it would have been more appropriate to say that a failure rate of 29 per cent is unacceptable and the college is rigorously reviewing recruitment procedures, the quality of teaching and learning, and the support given to students to ensure improvements? After all, it is little consolation to one of the students that fail to know that their college performs well compared with others.
