There were two reasons to celebrate at the Lauderdale Macmillan Fundraising Committee’s AGM held at the Lauderdale Hotel.
Treasurer Sylvia Hales reported that the committee had raised well over £6,000 in 2011 to help people affected by cancer.
This is a healthy increase on the previous year, reflecting the hard work of committee members and their helpers, as well as the generosity of the local community.
The second reason for celebration was recognition of more than 38 years service by Isa Walker who has retired from the committee.
Isa said: “I’ve really enjoyed fundraising for Macmillan over the years and I’ll still come along and help at the committee events, but it’s time for me to take a less active role.”
She was one of the original members of the committee, joining in 1974. Isa has served as secretary, and Christmas card, collection box and coffee morning organiser.
Macmillan area fundraising manager Jan Forrest presented Isa with a floral arrangement and committee members enjoyed tea and cake to mark the occasion.
Jan and gave a short speech to thank both Isa and her husband, Bill, who retired a couple of years ago for their work.
Jan said: “We have a network of committees across the Borders and we’re always keen to find more volunteers.
“So if you’d like to help Macmillan, why not contact a member of your local committee or give us a call on 0300 1000 200.”
