STAFF from utility company British Gas, who forced entry into a customer’s home in Galashiels last week in pursuit of unpaid arrears, discovered the cultivation of a number of suspected cannabis plants.

The police were informed and, in a subsequent search of the property in Kilnknowe Place on Wednesday, a number of plants along with growing equipment were recovered.

The male occupant was later charged with alleged drug-related offences and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The following day officers executed a search warrant at a house in Hawick and recovered “a significant amount of drugs, cash and other articles”.

Two people have been charged with various alleged drug offences.

On Saturday afternoon, police searched a house in Balmoral Avenue, Galashiels, and recovered six cannabis plants and a small amount of cannabis resin.

The 37-year-old male occupant was charged with possession and production of a controlled drug.

Later that evening, police, using a warrant, searched a house in Kenilworth Avenue, Hawick, and recovered two small bags containing herbal cannabis. The 29-year-old male occupier was later charged with possession with intent to supply.

Finally, on Sunday evening a 22-year-old man from Selkirk was arrested after being stopped and searched in Gala Park, Galashiels.

Police say he was found in possession of two packets of cocaine and later charged.
