students from 16 primary and independent schools across the south of Scotland gathered at St Mary’s in Melrose to compete in the multi-disciplinary Farr Out Challenge.

Funded by former St Mary’s pupil George Farr from Coldstream, the event featured unusual activities, including a torture chamber, climbing wall and drama productions.

When the teamwork, endurance, competitive spirit and creativity scores were tallied up, Bellhaven Hill school from East Lothian was the winner.

But local schools were also to the fore with individual commendations going to St Boswells for the torture chamber, Channelkirk (Oxton) for the climbing wall and Lilliesleaf for sporting skills.
