Police are appealing for information following a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Denholm that left many homes and businesses without power.

At around 12.30am on Saturday, December 12, a blue Vauxhall Corsa left the carriageway near Denholm Bridge as it travelled from Hawick along the A698.

The vehicle collided with an electricity pole and the male driver, along with his three passengers, were all transferred by ambulance to the Borders General Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

As a result of the collision, the community of Denholm was without power for several hours and the road closed while Scottish Power engineers made the area safe.

The thoroughfare is expected to reopen to traffic later this evening.

PC Gary Brown, who is based in Hawick, said: “Fortunately, no-one sustained serious injury as a result of this incident. However, anyone who saw this vehicle prior to the collision is asked to get in touch with police on 101 or through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
