Scotland Gas Networks have said the gas pipe that was hit in a car crash in Walkerburn this morning was not damaged.
The accident at around 8.20am involved two cars near the George Hotel on the A72, with one ending up in a ditch and hitting the pipe.
Scotland Gas Networks engineers remain on site.
Emergency services attended and while fire crews from Galashiels and Peebles believe the gas pipe was in tact, they were forced to cut metal railings in order to get into the engine of one of the cars and isolate its battery. As a precautionary measure, gas experts are to inspect the pipe this morning.
There were two casualties from the two cars, both with minor injuries, and Scottish Borders Council’s building control team have also been called after firefighters deemed a wall involved in the smash as being in an unsafe condition.
